 Mystery Sonatas

Set to the score of Heinrich Biber’s Rosary Sonatas (1674), this ballet was a milestone for the Brooklyn Ballet. Firmly rooted in 17th c. music and dance, Mystery Sonatas explored humanity in the fashion of the period, bringing in elements of the present. Very ambitious! Lynn Parkerson and I as well loved these lofty aspirations which the art of classical dance form epitomizes. Unearthly! I had worked with Grace and her sister Maria Brizzi of Grace Costumes in my very early working days as a costume designer, and they always beautifully realized my dreams from sketches, fabrics and accessories I had brought to them. By 2005 Grace had passed away, but ageless Maria did wonders again for this production. From the two sisters from Sicily to the talented craftsmen from all over the world who work magic, designing costumes opened up a fabulous world to me.
