La Folia with music by Antonio Vivaldi was presented in the 2011 Spring season of the Brooklyn Ballet. For this ballet I designed and supervised execution of period-style costumes. The choreography was reconstructed by noted baroque dancer Thomas Baird from the 18th c. French Beauchamp-Feuillet notation system. This ballet was particularly appealing because Tom’s choreography is so pure, so correct. He danced beautifully, as did Catherine Green. The addition of modern dancers in pared-down costumes, i.e. leotards, and hip-hop performers in their street clothes made for a crowd pleaser and New York Times Arts Section.
